Wedding Story: Rustic Country Wedding

Our newest wedding story comes courtesy of the amazing group at Ampersand Grey in Edmonton, Alberta. We fell in love with the rustic touches and vintage vibe of this wedding the moment we saw these photos. In our Wedding Stories we hope to provide inspiration to brides by sharing the charming tales of real weddings in all their lovely details!

Rustic Country Wedding at Clymont Hall

Sonja and Waldemar met through mutual friends, and while Sonja originally thought Waldemar wasn't her type, his Argentinian background and the strong role that family and culture played in his life quickly won her over. She soon found herself taking Spanish lessons and spent evenings dancing with him at a local Latin nightclub.

When they started planning their wedding they both knew they wanted to incorporate his South American traditions with her love of interior design. As an interior designer, Sonja knew she wanted to use her skills and network to create a wedding that was truly personal and unique. Instead of a glamorous affair, they opted for an intimate, relaxed, and comfortable atmosphere. It was important to them that their wedding reflected who they both are, while showcasing how they planned to merge their two lives together.

The couple relied on the help of their family to create the wedding of their dreams. The ribbons and wedding cake were created by Waldemar's mom and aunt. Many of the DIY decorating projects were created by Sonja's mother and aunt, who sewed table runners and assembled yarn balls using directions they found on Pinterest. Waldemar himself created the head table out of old pallets.

Instead of a bouquet toss, they incorporated an Argentinian tradition where all the women pull ribbons out of a glass jar. Pulling a ribbon with a ring charm means you'll be the next to marry, but pulling out a nail is bad luck!  The couple celebrated their wedding with a mini-carnival on the dance floor, complete with colorful masks and confetti brought in directly from Argentina. They ended the night by dancing to their beloved Latin music surrounded by their friends and loved ones.
